One More Bite

At One More Bite we’ll be encouraging kids to try new foods and learn how good food is made. Local farmers, activists and entrepreneurs will offer healthy and delicious samples of their products, and lead kids of all ages in hands-on activities. As your kids learn about the food system, and try new flavors, they’ll also be seeking out stamps for the special passbook they’ll receive when you arrive, and win a treat of their choice at the end for their efforts.

Your “stops” throughout the day include Pure Genius ProvisionsMcClure’s PicklesUmi KitchenCava GrillTrue Made FoodsTuckrboxAll GranolaGotham GreensLes Trois Petits Cochons and more for delicious samples, plus partners like:

  • Annie Novak of Growing Chefs and Eagle Street Rooftop Farm, who will be leading a series of activities about Monarch butterflies and how they pollinate our favorite snacks
  • City Growers, who will explore all the different parts of plants that we eat through art projects–from leaves to roots to flowers and fruits
  • Pure Food Kids will ask kids to guess and measure the amount of sugar they think a processed food contains

Once you’ve had your fill you can do “food coloring” with Private Picassos between 11am and 2pm using apples, pears and mini pumpkins as the medium for their masterpieces. So come dressed for a (washable) mess!

And parents, we haven’t forgotten you. We’ve scheduled three great, drop-in talks for mealtime inspiration too:

  • Finding the joy in family meals with Kate Huling of Marlow Goods and a contributor to Dinner at the Long Table
  • A panel with nutritionists who are also parents on what they do, and don’t eat at home (and how that’s probably different for everyone)
  • Tips on encouraging the pickiest of eaters to try new foods with Andrea Kapner of Tiny Turnips Kitchen.

DreamStreet Theatre Company

DreamstreetNYC is a Brooklyn based 501c-3 Non-Profit Theatre Company and Artistic community for persons with Special Needs.  We envision a world in which the public and private perception of ability is transformed through the full inclusion of differently-abled individuals in the arts and in the community.  Dreamstreet empowers people with Special Needs who are generally excluded from the arts, allowing them opportunities for maximum self expression and self-esteem as they entertain and enlighten audiences!

Please join us in our mission to create a socially creative community for special needs individuals with a passion for performance to grow their talents and show the world just how uniquely able they are. Our live shows attempt to break down stereo-typing, so audiences see the amazing talent of our performers and not a disability. We hope that the work of our differently abled cast members will illustrate to the community the profound effect art can have on life.

Please join the Differently-Abled cast of DreamStreet Theatre Company, as they celebrate the inclusion of Special Needs in the arts through script and song, and the loves and losses we all—no matter our differences—experience in this lifetime.  Throughout the evening please enjoy:

  • The premiere of Love (and loneliness) in the (not so) Different,  a DreamStreet original production
  • Complimentary cocktails and cuisine sponsored by your favorite Brooklyn-Based vendors
  • Photo and autograph booth with the DreamStreet cast
  • Silent Auction
  • Local Art Displays
  • Music and dancing

Formal attire encouraged!
